The Blessing of the Old Woman, the Tulip, and the Dog
by Emily
Alicia Ostriker
To be blessedsaid the old womanis to live and workso hardGod’s lovewashes right through youlike milk through a cow
To be blessedsaid the dark red tulipis to knock their eyes outwith the slug of lustimplied byyour up-ended skirt
To be blessedsaid the dogis to have a pinchof Godinside youand all the otherdogs can smell it
The subjects chosen and the ways they describe being blessed, just brilliant. So many choices made and such right ones.
All three of them are right.
I never read this before.
